Public Services Librarian for Children’s Services

Schedule: 32 to 40 hours/week, negotiable; includes weekly Saturday hours; plus evenings and Sundays as scheduled; plus occasional substitute hours.

Start date: as soon as the first week of December, 2018.

Application deadline: by October 26 for first consideration; open until filled.

Starting pay: $23.54/hour, with benefits prorated depending on %FTE.

Required qualifications: Required qualifications: the best combination of education, training, experience, skills, and motivation to perform the job effectively, including:

  • Effectiveness in working with children
  • Ability to design and implement service programs
  • Ability to work well with colleagues, library users, and community organizations
  • Ability to use a variety of print and online information sources in responding to library user needs
  • Ability to develop and manage a children’s collection
  • Knowledge of library practices, procedures, and techniques
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate well with assigned employees, other library staff, and the general public

Desired qualifications:

  • Library collection management experience, especially with children’s materials
  • Experience in providing information services
  • Previous storytime or similar experience
  • Previous outreach activities
  • Experience as a member of a management team
  • Demonstrated successful coordination of programs offered to the public

Principal job activities:

  • Select and manage the library’s children’s collection
  • Provide a variety of information services to library users using printed and electronic resources
  • Provide children’s storytimes twice per week
  • Organize and offer other children’s programs as appropriate
  • Offer services enhancing early childhood development
  • Provide a variety of outreach services
  • Offer reader’s advisory services
  • Participate as a member of the library’s management team
  • Perform some lead or supervisory responsibilities, especially with volunteers
  • Offer tours for classes and other groups
  • Assist with general front-desk duties and other activities such as materials checkin and checkout, and database maintenance
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the library’s long-range plan and budget
  • Assist in promoting the, llibrary
  • Attend staff meetings, and take part in other library-related activities as appropriate

Administrative Services Coordinator

Schedule: 25 hours/week

Start date: November, 2018.

Starting pay: $23.54/hour, with benefits prorated depending on %FTE.

Required qualifications: the best combination of education, training, experience, skills, and motivation to perform the job effectively. Facility with financial accounting systems, in particular the Budget, Accounting, Reporting System for Counties and Cities and Other Local Governments (BARS), or other equivalent systems; understanding the construction and administration of annual budgets; facility in processing payroll, accounts payable, and income accounts; speed and accuracy with figures; ability to organize work to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; ability to utilize word processor, spreadsheets, and other software as relevant for job duties; ability to use tact, discretion and courtesy with Library and public contacts; basic knowledge of modern secretarial and office procedures; ability to perform duties as listed in the Position Description.

Desired qualifications: demonstrated experience with employment practices and recordkeeping; understanding of state and federal guidelines governing industrial insurance and employment taxes; experience as a member of a management team; experience in working with a board of directors; experience with production of monthly and annual reports.

Principal job activities: perform a variety of responsible duties to prepare and maintain various Library accounting, investments, budget, payroll, and other fiscal records, data and information. Accumulate, post, balance, and reconcile records, and prepare periodic reports. Identify, trace and otherwise resolve discrepancies in accordance with procedures. Classify and code entries and transactions and maintain cash funds. Coordinate work activities with County Auditor's office as applicable. Perform as secretary to the Library Director. Attend board and staff meetings, participate in appropriate continuing education opportunities, and take part in other library-related activities as appropriate.
